WELCOME TO COLONIA ROMA

La Colonia Roma is proud to be, along with Condesa, the first housing division with all the necessary infrastructure services. Three factors were combined in “La Roma” that distinguished her from her contemporaries.

In the first instance, the urban area is notable, with its notable innovations: wide streets with ridges (Orizaba), tree-lined avenues of Veracruz, today Insurgentes (30 meters), and Jalisco, today Álvaro Obregón (45 meters) Boulevard parisino The nomenclature of its streets, like the Countess, uses the names of states and cities of the Mexican Republic. Two squares were drawn on the central north-south axis of the colony: Parque Roma (Plaza Rio de Janeiro), and Plaza Ajusco (Luis Cabrera).

The second factor is its architecture, since it was built the last buildings in the art nouveau, eclectic and French style that characterized the regime of Porfirio Diaz. There are still about 1,500 buildings converted into artistic monuments. In the social aspect, it was residence of numerous personages: Álvaro Obregón, Fernando of the Step, Pita Love, Sergio Pitol and Ramón López Velarde; Andrea Palma, María Conesa, Enrique Alonso (Cachirulo) and Leonora Carrington. In addition, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and William Burroughs, poets of the beat movement, inhabited these streets.
